New poem

Forget, forgive
Memory transfigures our dawn
Into a doubting, sunburn grace of thoughts
Dancing like one being
He, blue eyed and she, singing
Rattling and talking
Dim naked rhymes echoing
While midnight clears

I’m afraid to meet you now
But the ghost of you
Stands in every crooked morning
A mist shaped like beauty
With papery wings for hinges between worlds
You seem to own my fate
My heart pacing to meet your drums
Sailing me against still shapes
Of spring, summer and winter
Your smile held something I will never possess
A shifting grace of youth
If I could tell you…
How I’ve etched our names into marble
Trying to measure brightness with words
If I could tell you
How I understand nothing
And how the glimpse of dawn
Is slowly lost to midnight
